Well traveled would be a fitting description of Evan Speicher. As a tractor collector, the young man has been known to attend far distant shows. He resides in Elk City, KS, and maybe there are no close by shows. That may also explain why he began hosting a show 3 years ago.
He admitted that the Elk City show has been a majority of his collection. The venue is perfect for him to showcase his large collection of walk behinds, considering it’s a park right next door.
Evan isn’t one to gripe. “I wish that was closer!” If he wants a piece, he will go get it. Recently, he traveled to Oklahoma, Missouri, and Iowa. Evan claims he still has items to retrieve in Pennsylvania.
Evan is also known for his small engine mechanics. As of yet, no tractor has been too far gone. Evan has rescued artifacts that others may consider parts or scrap.
I was fortunate to see his collection in Elk City while I was in Kansas. He had warned me that the size could be overwhelming. For me, I’d disagree. What was uncomfortable was the heat of the evening, and there was no control of the weather.
One large building houses a majority of the collection and is full. We toured room to room as Evan pointed out particular pieces. I noted the building was two stories and asked about upstairs. 1He answered with, “I would but for two reasons. One was getting anything up there, and more practically, the floor couldn’t hold the weight.”
Evan has aspirations of video media. I applaud and support this idea. Seeing a video documentary of his restoration work would be interesting.
